Three weeks ago, when Ruud (Elles' brother) was here, we discovered a bowling centre in the basement underneath the Kallio swimminghall, just a few minutes down the Helsinginkatu. It appeared to be a 'disco bowling night', an intermediate players' variation of the well known game...
It's been a while since I've put something new on this website. Not that I've been lazy or anything. In fact, I've been very busy working on some 'secret' project, and I will continue to do so for the rest of the summer. Besides this, my JVC video camera broke down a while ago and it is still in the repair shop...
Dagen achtereen bekeek ik je site, om weer een glimp op te kunnen vangen van jullie knusse leventje in Helsinki. De teleurstelling was keer op keer groot. Ook dit keer, vanwege de kapotte camera. Juist de filmpjes maakte het bekijken leuk.
Nog eventjes geduld dan maar...dan kan ik jullie verhalen live beluisteren en jullie foto's en blije gezichtjes zien. Dat troost me. ;-)

Hoi Martijn, ik heb je reisverslag gelezen en moet zeggen dat het allemaal erg goed klopt. Ik woon zelf al jaren in Finland, maar vond jouw gegeven informatie erg bruikbaar voor mensen die nieuw zijn, bedankt en als je het niet erg vind heb ik wat info uit je verslag gekopieerd om door te geven aan nieuwelingen.

The Finns are known to drink a lot of coffee. In fact, they consume the most coffee per capita. But it's amazing how often a Finnish cup of brown gold tastes like half warm, stale creek water; the last thing that one would expect when passing the Meira Oy coffee roasting factory, a few blocks away from our house in Kallio. Perhaps it is a matter of taste. The Finns who are responsible for most of the coffee seem to be quite happy with their products.
Hey Martijn, thanks for sharing your vodcast with the world... I'm in Rotterdam now and watching the delicious sandwich eating :-) Learning about streaming videos now / feeds. You did a great job! Thanks. -TC
You're right again. I usually adapt and eat drink what they do, but here my cup of cofee is just to important, so I had to import my own Senseo+cofee from Holland ;o)
A week ago we went to check out the brand new shopping centre Kamppi in the centre of the town. Having spent just a few seconds inside the mall, we were surprised by a bar annex grand café 'Bierhuis Rotterdam'. Yes, a 'Dutch' pub! Of course we went in and spent the rest of the afternoon there, drinking Grolsch (Dutch) beer. The manager was very happy to have us, genuine Dutch people and in return of our effort to teach him and his staff some Dutch jibberish, we got some free Grolsch beers.. Proost! They are having a special on 'Koninginnedag' (Queensday) starring Willempie and Maxima (our future king and queen), so pay them a visit the 30th of April...

A great and free alternative to iTunes is DTV. It is fully focused on free internet TV channels - not on selling music (videos) like iTunes is. It even supports BitTorrent downloading (and sharing) of video!
Where's the video!? To play the videos you need QuickTime 7. Download the latest Quicktime-plugin here. Once installed, an image with a 'play video' button appears in articles that contain a video. Click on the image to load the video. This may take a while, depending on your connection speed and the size of the video. When the video is fully downloaded, it will start playing automatically. If the video loads but does not play automatically, try clicking the play button manually.
